Brainless - word of the year for my 2026
Creating stuff is hard. Creating stuff that people enjoy is even harder. All the thinking, doing, polishing, editing, backtracking, deleting, redoing, ugh…
What If I just… did without thinking? Would it cause me to make only shit or to actually cause me to do fun stuff? Hoping for the second one tbh. Especially since I tend to overthink anyway so me trying to conciously steer in the other direction will probably make me just go in the middle. That’s what you call knowing yourself.
On that matter, below is what I did publish first. I decided to leave it since it’s also true and mine but kinda over the top and pompous.
FIRST_PUBLISHED_VERSION
What do I want to say? How do I want it to be perceived? How do I ensure that people see what I share?
Just some of the questions that I assume every author has in their head. And just a drop in the ocean of uncertainty in my head.
I think what I miss is the “I am a creator” mindset, rather than “I want to be a creator” one.
In the case of the first one, the thing seems super simple - whatever I do makes me a creator since it’s a part of how I see myself. A random doodle? A short story that is kind of shit? A small game that took me a few hours? All proof that I am who I think I am.
In the latter case the bar is ever-moving and pushed forward by questions such as “Is it good enough?” or “Will people like it?”.
And so, I decided to try and fight that. I am a creator. I am a game developer. I am a writer. Even if, by some relative measures, a shitty one for now - at least I am, what I want to be.
